Workshops test out new ideas
Miro Team
19:28
If anybody wants to share it after we start that will be of great help
Kathleen Osta
19:48
Meetings often cover multiple topics, workshops often have a single focus
Paul Heatley
19:51
workshop means more involvement from all on the call, rather than just one or two speakers and the rest listening

purpose will be different
Miro Team
20:36
Yes, as there are many attendees (around 500) attendees only have chat & Q&A
Kathleen Osta
20:41
Workshops that are facilitated hear from all voices and perspectives, some meetings can do that but often have presenters

Why is the screen so pixelated ?
Pam Ashby

On mine I have no controls to zoom in
Martin Lawson
27:04
“There was a problem loading this board. Please try to reload the page. If the issue persists, send us a bug report”…. So, it’s definitely a Miro problem of some sort...
Karen Mack
27:20

28:48
i'm seeing 318 peeps in the miro board - it's ok for me but... your mileage may vary...
Marne Maykowskyj

Katharina Staszkow

So they might not want to get interrupted
Fatima Delgado
29:47

Karen Bruns
29:52
Recording furry screens isn’t helpful.
Julie Harris
29:56
I'm sorry - I really wanted to participate in this, but the fact that we can't solve the Miro board problem, I need to choose to spend my time more wisely. I hope the recording will be sent out later. Good luck, everyone.
Justin Mertes
30:04
Watching on Zoom will provide all the content needed. FWIW most of my workshops don’t have 300+ attendees so Miro always performs well for me 😅
Karen Bruns
30:05
They should have a producer checking in on these issues.
Mariëtte Van Houten
30:10
Chrome is best
Christopher FIck
30:37
Chrome is not working for me, either.
Hazel Chapman
30:40

me = using chrome and am 'following' the board owner. and it's staying in sync with what I'm seeing on the Zoom call. The app = I abandoned... it didn't want to play: quit and see it in the browser

MARY MARTIN
32:52
It would be better to close the board down & just let us follow your webinar. The board is a mess!
Tim Fife
33:00
Thanks Justin.
Karen Bruns
33:08
The zooming in isn’t helping as the resolution is fuzzy and you can’t read it.
Tianne Croshaw
33:11
Thanks very much Justin
Fatima Delgado
33:12
the sharing screen is really bad quality as well
Jutta Schweiger
33:15
Thank you Justin.
Jutta Schweiger
33:24
Will you send out the recording later?
Louis B Davis
33:33
Justin you should be a facilitator ;-) Thanks
Pam Ashby
33:36
Thanks Justin, very happy to watch :)
Eduardo Gomez Ruiz
33:43
Thank you Justin to have heard us and gave the explanations! Very appreciated! : )
Hazel Chapman

Thank you Justin and yes the picture on zoom is very unclear
Linda Decker
34:37
Thank you.
Akinkunmi Salaam
35:08
Got in finally
MARY MARTIN
35:16
The close captions should be on as well, since this is all very hard to follow, and unfortunately doesn't reflect well on people who could be fabulous presenters. :(
Eduardo Gomez Ruiz
35:24
Still not working for me. I'll watch the video. Thanks for sending it! Have a great day! : )
Karen Bruns
35:25
Sharing images afterwards along with the recording might help us to glean the kernels of wisdom you are imparting.
Akinkunmi Salaam
35:51
so many collabrators cursor :)
Karen Bruns
36:01
I can appreciate how difficult it is to be a presenter while technical challenges arise. You are all being very professional and handling a challenging situation with grace. Thank you.
Liz Sweeney
36:22
Also just got in!
Renee Dunaway
36:41
@Akinkunmi click the arrow icon in the top right next to your icon. That will toggle the other cursers on or off
Tim Fife
36:45
Me too. Looks like access is opening up.
Danielle Freeman
36:49
I turned off the cursers too
Starr Durand
36:50
You can turn off viewing the collaborators’ cursors to clear your view. Also, if you listen to the speakers, you can learn a lot. There is an awful lot of chatting.
Justin Mertes
37:24
Maybe Miro went full-Covid on us and set a limit on people allowed in the board at one time?
Richard Stevens
39:01
Some feedback, create multiple boards to avoid today’s problems. Find a solution to direct different users to different boards
Danielle Freeman
41:02
These boards are exceptional. Makes my own mind think of creative ways to deliver value.
Miro Angel
42:15
could you repeat the link for the board please

Mariëtte Van Houten
44:54
Locking your frames is a always a good idea… this is so difficult to follow with everything moving about…
Fatima Delgado
44:57
The same for me
christine johnson
45:02
Can this be chocked up to neurodiversity? I'm struggling with feeling seasick with watching this... Not sure if I'd ever eventually get comfortable with all of the visual jerkiness...
Ellie Chapman
45:27
It’s great to see how you’re using Miro
Marne Maykowskyj
45:34
AMAZING!
Fatima Delgado
45:46
I can not get into the miro board . NOt permission
Gemma Alcodori
46:11
The link had a mistake sorry : https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lTmB7Z4=/
Fatima Delgado
46:30
Thanks :)
Tim Fife
46:52
@christine: In my experience, this sense of nausea can come with screen sharing Miro boards. It gets much better when everyone is one the Miro board and moving themselves around, rather than having someone move the screen around for you
Marnix Bras
47:14
So night mode is def a good one to build @miro :-)
Ellie Chapman
47:25
Ahh didn’t know dark mode was possible! Thanks for the tip
Danielle Freeman
47:32
Love the dark mode
christine johnson
47:52
Thx @Tim! :)
Justin Mertes
47:53
To be clear, our dark mode is a manual thing we’ve done.
Helen [[unknown]]
48:18
I'm glad to see it's not just our team that has the Meero/Myro - potayto - potahto issue :-D
Kathleen Osta
48:39
giving participants something to do every 5-7 minutes
Kathleen Osta
48:51
as in, engage with the content
Danielle Freeman
48:58
I agree @Kathleen
Tim Fife
49:26
My team goes for at least a 5-10 min break every 1 hour.
MARY MARTIN
49:27
Justin great idea about the mode. Regardless of a 3hr session or 7hr session we are all on screen time to long and our day total hits longer than 7hrs.
Fatima Delgado
50:12
It is very inspiring to see all the creative boards so far, but as someone mentioned i feel dizzy or overwhelmed, , trying to follow the content and what is happening in the board
Miro Team
50:14
https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lTmB7Z4=/
Justin Mertes
50:37
@teresa we just make a shape and lock it. IE: we manually make a “background.”
Kent Glade
50:42
Do you have a MiroClubhouse platform? @swampy
Alex Cena
50:53
Where do I find the setting for dark mode?
Tim Fife
51:01
Totes agree with Ana!
Alex Cena
51:48
Oh never mind. I found the work around in the chat.
Marnix Bras
51:58
@Alex Pena, just add manually a dark backgrounf
Danielle Freeman
52:19
YES, give yourself some grace. No one expects perfection
Peter Sloth Madsen
52:24
I love MIRO! Saved us so many times in my humanitarian organization. I facilitated full-day seminars across the organization with 40 participants + teams / zoom for video breakout. I also use it with my scrum team every day as a scrum master. For retrospectives + as a design research-wall. Its extremely useful to get people on “the same page” :-)
Karen Bruns
54:08
I love Miro. Now that I was able to get into the board, I can see how wonderful this board is set up. I love the dark background idea, also the different ways of displaying references. Especially like the journey you’ve created with the lines and stops along the way.
Marnix Bras
54:33
Students like this visual teamwork. For me as a teacher it is handy to give the students on a shared board a shared group-exercise and split the 40 students in 10 groups. The work in breakout-rooms on the same board. As teacher it is very funny to see them wok on the 10 areas on the same board. Just like a physical classroom
Martha Legare
55:06
Decision fatigue is critical!
Louis B Davis
55:20
Where are the visual aids for this conversation now? Or is this organic chat from the panel? Very interesting by the way.
Nadine van der Sluis
56:05
Yes it is our job to make decisions. But it helps sooo much when participants are part of the decision process. Ownership is essential
Nitya Nambisan
56:29
Laura, love the idea of assigning a CDO! So key
Che Ho
57:34
😂
Ana Kyra Bekš
57:57
Amen!
Danielle Freeman
58:00
Bless you Justin!! 3 youngsters and I agree. Add in the time in your agenda for those 'issues'
Tim Fife
58:05
+1 to Justin’s doubling expected time!
MARY MARTIN
58:06
Digital work place adds double, when you add in the low tech experience of people.
Marne Maykowskyj
58:08
SUCH a good point. So hard to convince clients we need this time.
Martha Legare
58:36
I already double - and still need more time - haha - so much for being optimistic!
Che Ho
59:34
😂
Tim Fife
01:00:18
+1 to direct links
MARY MARTIN
01:00:28
Hope for the eagles & prepare for the turkeys. :)
Danielle Freeman
01:00:28
Oh a frame link!! I never realized that was a thing
Karen Bruns
01:00:43
How do you create a link on a frame?
Jay Gerhart
01:00:53

01:01:10

Karen Bruns
01:01:44
Interesting….just got kicked out of Miro a message that says the board can’t be opened, even though it was already open. Seems like it’s timing people’s visit, maybe to allow other people in?
Shaun Bradley
01:02:07
Totally agree Justin - I do most of the work. Frustrations with Miro = frustrations with the workshop
Karen Mack
01:02:14
Yes Justin! One of the challenges we had today!
Tim Fife
01:02:18
To create a frame link, click on the object, then on the three dots, and click “Copy Link”

01:02:19

Peter Sloth Madsen
01:02:20
I agree - BUT it depends
Ellie Chapman
01:02:21
Ahh interesting perspective - we encourage everyone in the meeting to get in the board
Pam Ashby
01:02:43
I sometimes use Miro to view and not edit - now I don’t feel guilty! It depends of course on your purpose and context.
Karen Bruns
01:02:50
Thank you for the create a link to a frame info!
Peter Sloth Madsen
01:02:56
I use co-facilitators in breakout groups - then the non-MIRO people can focus on content
Miro Team

Hocine SI-AHMED
01:03:15

Danielle Freeman
01:04:00
I do the same thing, Laura. Always have a warm up exercise on purpose
Che Ho
01:04:10
@Laura: Ha! Nice.
Annie MacLeod
01:04:12
Me too - the funner the better
Tim Fife
01:04:13
I do resident/user co-design sessions, and pair each participant with a design team member, and the team member drives while the participant explains what they want to see happen / content they want to add.
Jackie Lutzke
01:04:19
Exactly--use a warm up activity to upskill on the key actions you need participants to have to participate effectively!
Shaun Bradley
01:04:19
Brilliant! Type and move stickies
Marne Maykowskyj
01:04:20
@Peter, same. If anyone is having trouble getting in, or calling in, We have each breakout room assign a scribe. Some folks will be able to contribute without being in Miro.My goal is to share screen the LEAST amount possible.
Mariëtte Van Houten
01:04:21
You can have a breakout room ready for people that have technical issues. With one techspert. So the large group is not slowed down. Just learned today
Lisa Rocchetti
01:04:31
+1 to starting with an icebreaker/energizer that also practices some basic tool usage
Marne Maykowskyj
01:04:45
YES! Teach it while they use it@
Karen Bruns
01:04:47
Techspert!!! Hilarious. Totally stealing
Martha Legare
01:05:15
So if I’m leading a “class” of people who have zero experience with Miro, it can be used primarily for working with content - controlled by facilitator?
Debra Vicchiarelli
01:05:29
Miro is indispensable when you need to refer to multiple things at one time - PPT shows 1 set of data at a time. Miro can show multiple pages
Jackie Lutzke
01:05:39
I like to use frames + buttons to get people to jump to the frame really easily.
Louis B Davis
01:05:47
but most do force it because they like it - pity
Peter Sloth Madsen
01:05:49
In hybrid workshops - I also appoint a “Techspert” in each physical group - to do the notes in MIRO ;-)
Danielle Freeman
01:05:52
I do too, @Jackie
Annie MacLeod
01:05:55
Yes Ana - new timer is much more elegant!
Danielle Freeman
01:06:06
Fancy Timer !!
Che Ho
01:06:16
🎊 Yay!
Otto Acuna
01:06:47
I want to congratulate you all because you are providing valuable information from experience, when to use it AND when NOT to use it.
Fatima Delgado
01:07:06
How to activate it?
Javier Bustamante
01:07:10
My name is Dr Javier Bustamante, a Pediatrician involved in Healthcare Innovation for over 15 years. My team would like to give a shout out to Justin Mertes from Crema.us for facilitating our Design Sprint using Miro last year, and for running a three month project that opened our eyes to the way we can collaborate in the future. It changed our lives, the way we work and motivated us to become Agile! We took such a leap during the pandemic year of 2020 thanks to Miro and Crema, that it is allowing us to make a real difference in the lives of young parents with newborns and infants. javiermd@me.com
Marne Maykowskyj
01:07:13
100%
Javier von Westphalen
01:07:55
How do facilitate if not using Miro?
Debra Vicchiarelli
01:08:00
1 facilitator leads, 1 facilitator wrangles on Miro (wrangle = bring lost participants back to the group)
Annie MacLeod
01:08:09
Shout out to Justin and Crema from my team too! Great to work with!
Danielle Freeman
01:08:28
Great workshop all. Thank you for putting this together !!
Jose Gonzalez
01:09:33
you can also do “select all”
Gary Austin
01:10:06
If you want a professional body for Facilitators, check out www.iaf-world.org this is the home of the International Association of Facilitators, supporting facilitators around the globe…
Richard Stevens
01:10:07
Justin Mertes, can you please share a non redacted or readable version of the workshop boards?
Gary Austin
01:10:14
www.sessionlab.com is also the home of the International Association of Facilitators Methods Database too…
Otto Acuna
01:10:40
Is there a Miro Bootcamp kind of training where someone can start learning one by one the features and get the skills. I have taken the webinars, but I still feel clumsy.
Jackie Lutzke
01:10:48
the only watch out with select all is that if you need to unlock something that's been locked via select all is that you will UNLOCK all and then need to repeat the action. so sometimes think in locking "bundles" -- things that make sense as a locked group. otherwise it can be best to lock individually
Martha Legare
01:10:57
Give us a rough numbers for “quickly” vs steep curve”!
Otto Acuna
01:11:12
Or resources to read and get trained on online facilitation?
